Conscientiousness and voting

Voting is one of the things I believe in but I cannot figure out why. I know that many generations fought for our right to have rights. Voting is democracy. In the 2008 presidential election, 85% of Oregon voters returned their ballots. This equaled 1.8 million people. 3.8 million people live in Oregon. Even though I read that humans are part of a collective conscientiousness, voting does not prove this point.

I want to know why people don’t vote. I hear “because I don’t know the candidates or the issues.” How difficult is it to learn? Everyone has an opinion. Plenty of people post comments. Why don’t more people register to vote and then actually cast their ballots?
